lil cat: "where other couples take dance lessons or play bridge, music is our thing"

Your mom was right - it IS good to be bored. The proof is a new Danish lo-fi duo, lil cat, whose unpolished musical expression is the result of the boredom they experienced during the isolation, which the Corona pandemic brought in the spring of 2020. On April 2, 2021, the couple are ready with their debut EP 'tunes'.

A new Danish lo-fi pop duo, consisting of the couple Mads Vadsager & Cathrine van Leeuwen, is proof that boredom often leads to creativity. In their case, it actually became the springboard to a new musical project, lil cat, where they along with catchy melodies and rattle beats deal with the big and small problems of a traditional relationship, not forgetting the humor, honesty and charm - all directly from the couple's own bedroom.

It all started when the corona epidemic broke out in the spring of 2020. Like everyone else, Mads and Cathrine went into isolation - and like everyone else, they quickly got very bored.

“We were super bored. We had a very small apartment, so my mother and father allowed us to borrow their summer house during the time when everything was closed down, and then Cat asked me if we should bring some music gear,” says Mads Vadsager and continues:

“We have for a long time refrained from making music together, because there is something incredibly kitch about the “couples band” concept, and we have probably had an idea that you should not mix relationships and work together. But we found out that this is just bullshit."

As more and more tracks came along, the project also became a far more important and meaningful part of Mads’ and Cathrine's relationship. Now their everyday life wasn’t just about dinner and laundry, but instead about a common interest and a creative space where they could relax and have fun with all the dreams, frustrations and insecurities associated with a completely normal relationship.

“It's kind of our Netflix. It's what we do when we have fun and relax. Where other couples take dance lessons or play bridge or something, music is our thing, and the lyrics are therefore also taken directly from our own relationship - whether it is about my clothing crisis, PMS, or that I would like a whole football team of children with Mads. It is a kind of creative couples therapy,” - says Cathrine van Leeuwen.

As a listener, you are therefore invited all the way into the couple's bedroom, where they with casual and sincere songs share the stories and anecdotes from their own relationship. It's an honest and transparent universe that embraces the unpolished aesthetics of bedroom pop and is accompanied by Cat's beautiful, direct vocals.
